Accounting for School Bookkeepers and Financial Administrators
The objective of this course is to equip school bookkeepers and financial administrators with knowledge of the SA’s school’s acts and with obtaining a practical knowledge of school accounting. This will improve the governance of South African Schools. The course is offered with UNISA as the accredited institution.
Course Accreditation
This course is accredited on the NQF at level 5 with Unisa as the accrediting institution. You will receive a certificate issued by the University once you have successfully completed the course. The course is developed and presented by UNISA. CIBA, a statutory recognised professional body provides additional support to students through its e-learning training provider, AcademyOne. AcademyOne offers school bookkeepers and financial administrators, online contact sessions and video tutorials, thereby significantly increasing the pass rate of students.

Admission Requirements
Senior Certificate, National Senior Certificate or equivalent NQF level 4 qualification.
Course Content
The course provides an update on the accounting obligations of the Schools Act and present a practical application of the books to trial balance with easy to follow example of real live scenarios. The content includes: keep track of accounts, balance the books, record and report everyday financial transactions, control inventory, and understand VAT and tax.
Language
Study material will be in English. Students may, however, communicate and answer the assignments and examination in either English or Afrikaans.

Registration and Course Duration
Registrations at AcademyOne open 6 September 2016. Course duration is from 1 November 2016 to 31 June 2017. Course consist of both distance learning and online training. Available throughout South Africa. Video tutorials available from 1 November 2016. AcademyOne will submit the registration for each student at UNISA. Candidates are formally registered as students from UNISA.

This course will be taught by means of:
- UNISA study guides, tutorial letters, and assignments will be made available to you during the course. Students will also receive access to MyUNISA when the formal UNISA registration is completed in February 2017.
- State of the art e-learning platform. Each student will gain access to their own online study room with access to weekly video tutorials; downloadable PDF course notes; online discussion forums; online multiple-choice practice quizzes.
- Limited contact sessions.

The content is divided into manageable topics. A student number is issued to you by UNISA once the registration and first payment is received. Thereafter you will receive access to your online study room providing access through AcadamyOne to multi-media lectures, quizzes and further study material linked to each topic. The course instructor will provide you with academic support through the online discussion forum for the duration of the course.

Assessment And Award Of The Certificate
Formative assessment and examination admission will comply with UNISA’s formative assessment rules and policies
Formative assessment:
Three assignments of which two is compulsory and will contribute to the year mark
Summative assessment:
One three-hour examination paper
Marks:
Students require a final mark of 50% to pass the course. 80% of the year mark and 90% of the mark obtained in the examination will be used to calculate the final mark obtained.
