To be an Accountant in Practice in South Africa you must annually declare the number of hours you spend on CPD. This is one of the prerequisites to continue having the status as Accountant in Practice and being able to perform statutory work such as accounting officer, tax practitioner and independent review engagements.
If your qualification does not include relevant subjects you cannot become an accountant. Register as a CIBA member and then as a CIBA Academy student and write our assessments as evidence that you are competent in these subject areas. We call this recognition of prior learning or RPL. Once you have gained all the missing subjects for non-degree purposes you will be eligible for the CIBA designation BAP(SA) and start working for yourself as an Accountant in Practice.
