Ethically checked CIBA members deserve to be rewarded with a certificate and access to lifestyle rewards. Here is how to claim your rewards and the value they represent:

Value of available savings

Scenario 1: Fifi is a member of CIBA for the last 3 years. She has grown her practice over the last few years and during this time selected a number of CIBA rewards.

Reward: She calculated her savings to be more than R10 000 per year. Although she only pays R 3850 per year for her CIBA membership and designation. This means that she saved more than what she paid in membership fees.

How to access your rewards and Ethically Checked certificate

Rewards are only available to CIBA members in good standing that have obtained their CIBA Ethically Checked certificate.

  • Login to your CIBA member profile
  • Provide latest contact and payment details
  • View membership statement to ensure fees are fully paid
  • Complete the annual CPD course on Ethics
  • Complete the Ethically Checked declaration

CIBA Ethically Checked Certificate

Members that complete their mandatory Ethical declaration are eligible to receive a CIBA Ethically Checked Certificate.

This may be shared on social media, and the firm’s marketing publications, on the firm’s letterhead, email and website, and provides assurance to potential and existing clients working with CIBA members.

Reward: This is a great tool to promote your firms and attract new clients.

CIBA Technical Support

The official technical support platform for CIBA members.

  1. Legal helpline: CIBA members based in South Africa have access to a Legal Helpline, provided by LegalSense:

    • Option 1: Free service: All areas of personal law are covered for whenever you have a legal enquiry. The free service is limited to a phone in service only.
    • Option 2: Members can opt-in for the comprehensive subscription based service, directly with LegalSense. The paid service includes labour representation, drafting of contracts, and debt collection.

  2. CIBA Tax and VAT helpline: CIBA members based in South Africa and Namibia have access to a Tax and VAT Helpline, provided by SAIT. This service is limited to CIBA members that have obtained the CIBA specialist license in Tax, and is telephone advice only. It offers:

    • Advice: Expert, practical advice on South African and Namibian tax and VAT issues and trends.
    • Areas: Areas covered include income and corporate tax, CGT, PAYE, and VAT matters, as well as advice and guidance on dealing with investigations.

  3. Member WhatsApp Groups: Members can join CIBA’s regional membership WhatsApp groups. These are unpaid volunteer groups that are always on hand to act as a listening ear and offer free non-judgmental assistance whenever you need it.

  4. QuickUpdate: Access a technical knowledge base with support provided by an expert presenter. This includes a monthly online webinar covering specific updates, amendments or new developments in tax, accounting, company law, labour law, ethics and assurance standards.

    This is a monthly subscription based service offered by CIBA Academy.

  5. Help sheets and guidance: Access technical help sheets, ethical guidance and practice resources by topic from CIBA's Technical Advisory Service.

  6. Technical direction: CIBA members based in South Africa and Namibia may request technical guidance to navigate them in the right direction.

    • Technical queries are complex and unique to circumstances.
    • We can however assist you in identifying the likely route that may lead to an answer.
    • Responses are in the form of a conversation between two individuals in their quest for clarity and are therefore not to be confused with legal opinions, legal arguments, or relied on for accuracy or relevance.

The official CIBA Strategic Alliance appointment that provides advisory and assurance support services to CIBA members.

Features: Mazars is an international, integrated and independent firm, specialising in audit, accountancy, advisory, tax and legal services.

Mazars and CIBA have developed specific pathways to assist CIBA members in obtaining advanced accountancy services for all types of clients, including large corporates, significantly expanding accessibility and the market share for CIBA members:

  • Audit: Mazars is a registered audit firm with the IRBA.
  • BBBEE advisory: Mazars can perform BBBEE compliance and advisory services.
  • Advance tax planning: Mazars has access to a number of international and local experts to perform advance tax planning services.

The pathways include a structure that allows the CIBA member to perform support or preparation services for the client, whilst the advanced services are offered by Mazars. CIBA regulates the relationship so as to ensure and protect the integrity of the client relationship.

Member Mentorship Scheme

Our team of unpaid volunteer support members are always on hand to act as a listening ear and offer free non-judgmental assistance whenever you need it.

This is a call-in service for all members.

PI Financial Risk Services

The official CIBA partner that provides professional indemnity cover for members in practice.

Features: PIFRS is a specialist brokerage for PI Insurance:

  • PI: Covers some of your legal costs in defending you, as well as an agreed amount of any damages you may have to pay as compensation for any actual or alleged negligence or breach of professional duty
  • Summary of cover: Professional liability, Public liability. Sub-contracted duties, Employee dishonesty, Loss of documents, Claims preparation costs, Defamation, Statutory defence, and Wrongful arrest.

Cover is dependent on members completing an insurance questionnaire available in their online membership profiles, and having read and accepted the policy wording.

R5 million full indemnity for BAP(SA) only. Other designation holders (BA(SA), CBA(SA), CFO(SA) can apply for individual cover should they require PI.

Reward: R5 million indemnity for BAP(SA) only at a cost to CIBA of R300 per BAP(SA) per year, plus limited additional cover.
