SAIBA actively searches for meaningful relationships with other professional bodies, institutes of education, government bodies and commercial partners. Joint agreements give members access to focused and specialised services, provided by a variety of quality professional bodies and commercial partners.

Typically, agreements with partners may provide for the following:

  • Continuing Professional Development Programme
  • Electronic newsletters
  • Access to library and information services
  • Participation in special interest groups
  • Participation in regional forums
  • Participation in networking/business events
  • Joint submissions to policy makers
  • Joint marketing initiatives
  • Driving change together
  • Sharing of costs

We have current agreements with the following institutions:

SAIBA, the South African Institute of Tax Professionals (SAIT) and the DSD recently launched a volunteer project to help Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs) become compliant with their financial reports and tax returns. An estimated 80 000 NPOs are non-compliant and will be able to benefit from the www.npoassist.co.za volunteer project.

During Minister Dlamini’s Social Development Budget Vote speech tabled in Parliament on 4 May 2016, the importance of strengthening partnerships with civil society organisations was once again highlighted. “The NPO Act will be amended this year to ensure that NPOs are better placed to deliver services without any obstacles to the almost 17 million South Africans that depend on social assistance programmes. The National Development Agency (NDA) and Provincial Departments in collaboration with the private sector will embark on intensive capacity building and mentoring for NPOs,” says Minister Dlamini.

Through our strategic partnership with SAIT, we offer a joint membership scheme between SAIT and SAIBA.

Section 240 of the Tax Administration Laws Amendment Act, 21 of 2012 requires that every person (except certain groups specifically excluded) that either: provides advice to another person with respect to the application of a Tax Act or completes or assists in completing a tax return on behalf of another must register as a tax practitioner with SARS, and a recognised controlling body or a body whose members fall under the jurisdiction of a controlling body.

The MOU between SAIBA and SAIT enables SAIBA members that have been awarded the SAIBA designation "Business Accountant in Practice" to register with SAIT at a 50% discount.

SAIBA members that act as tax practitioners are therefore required to:

  • Maintain their membership of SAIBA
  • Obtain the SAIBA designation “Business Accountant in Practice”
  • Ensure that they are a member in good standing by being fully paid up and compliant with CPD requirements
  • Register with SAIT as tax practitioners or tax technicians

Benefits include:

  • Recognition as a tax practitioner in terms of the Tax Administration Laws Amendment Act, 21 of 2012

  • Local and international recognition
  • Comprehensive technical support via tax helpline, CPDs, training, qualifications, magazines and journals

  • Maintain their membership of ICB

CIMA is the world’s largest and leading professional body of management accountants, recognised as a professional body in South Africa and engaged in providing educational support to the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (United Kingdom) in respect of its members in Africa.

CIMA and SAIBA have established a mutual support agreement and have developed a membership pathway to offer SAIBA members easy access to step into their CIMA learning experience, allowing SAIBA members to become Chartered Management Accountants.

Specifically, the agreement provides for the following benefits for members:

CIMA has granted exemptions available to different SAIBA membership levels, based on a holistic review of entry requirements, competency frameworks and CPD.

Similarly, SAIBA offer CIMA learners support and accreditation through our designations.

CIMA levels match perfectly with SAIBA’s exclusive designations.

The exemptions are paired together according to eligibility:

BA (SA) + Operational Level
BA (SA) designation holders will begin at the operational level objective tests, leaving them with a requirement of 12 exams to obtain a CIMA qualification.

A CIMA operational level will automatically qualify for a BA (SA) designation, after a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) has been completed.

CBA (SA) or BAP (SA) + Operational Level
